Safer Human Medicine Acquires Holding Facility in Labelle, Florida

BAINBRIDGE, Georgia (February 18, 2025) – Safer Human Medicine (SHM) is proud to announce it has closed on a transaction to acquire an existing quarantine facility in Labelle, Florida. This investment gives SHM a unique opportunity to accelerate its holding and quarantine operations for non-human primates (NHPs) while supporting the development of its larger husbandry facility set for construction in Bainbridge, Georgia. Acquiring this facility immediately advances SHM’s ability to begin operations with established infrastructure, operational readiness, and an experienced workforce. This existing site represents a critical step toward SHM’s mission of advancing medical research safely and efficiently.

We are extremely confident in our ability to integrate the Labelle site into our broader operational plans. This acquisition not only accelerates our timeline for launching operations in Bainbridge but also ensures the highest safety and compliance standards as we expand.

Jim Harkness, CEO of Safer Human Medicine.

The Labelle site offers SHM several key advantages that will bolster its position in the domestic husbandry of NHPs and expand its operational capabilities.

  • Efficient Resource Allocation: SHM will conduct quarantine operations at the Labelle site, allowing the Bainbridge facility to focus on NHP husbandry.
  • Experienced Workforce: The Labelle site will be operational and staffed before the Bainbridge facility opens, allowing SHM to provide hands-on training for new Bainbridge employees and ensure operational readiness and efficiency.
  • Operational Excellence: Having another facility focused on quarantine gives SHM a head start in establishing operational processes that uphold the highest standards of safety, animal welfare, and environmental responsibility. These processes and experience will be invaluable for the team when it opens the facility in Bainbridge.
